Boston’s Best Cupcakes: 6 Of The City’s Sweetest Shops
The next time you’ve got a craving for cupcakes, why not satisfy your sweet tooth with the best Boston has to offer? Here are the top 6 places in Beantown to get the sugar rush you deserve.
Sweet has received many accolades from critics, and for good reason. Their ever-changing menu features unique flavors like banana split, pink lemonade (pictured above), chocolate-covered pretzel, and piña colada. They even offer canine-friendly pupcakes for your dog!
Wicked Good Cupcakes
You may have seen Wicked Good Cupcakes on Shark Tank, where the Boston-based business got their start after they won over investor Kevin O’Leary with their home-baked cupcakes in jars. They’re now selling their transportable treats, which come in flavors like neapolitan, cookie butter, and s’mores, at Fanueil Hall.
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the store and its co-owners are featured on TLC’s DC Cupcakes and Cupcake Cam LIVE. You can sample their creations yourself at their Newbury Street location, which often has a line out the door and down the sidewalk. Georgetown’s menu changes monthly, so keep an eye out for some of their most popular limited-edition flavors: lemon cheesecake, PB&J, lavender earl grey teacake, and white chocolate peppermint.
Treat Cupcake Bar
This self-serve shop allows you to mix-and-match with all kinds of toppings. Ever wanted to try pop rocks or cream cheese on your cupcake? Here’s your chance to get creative. If you’d rather stick to the classic cupcake experience, Treat sells the pre-made kind in flavors like creamsicle, fluffernutter, and bluberry pancake.
Monumental Cupcakes is a locally-owned bakery in Jamaica Plain, and they certainly live up to their name. They rotate flavors like coconut cloud and cookies and cream daily, so you’ll always find something new. Make sure to try their apple cider donuts and rice krispy treats, too!
Lulu’s was Boston’s first gourmet cupcake shop when they opened in 2004, and they’re still tantalizing the city’s tastebuds over a decade later. With flavors like strawberries and cream, Nutella, and pistachio with port wine, how can you resist?
